RESIDENCY PROGRAMS

The program offers to the artists private accommodation in a beautiful house in the neighborhood of Cosme Velho, and studio space at Largo das Artes, a cultural center located at an old historical building in downtown Rio de Janeiro.

The residency facilities hold 4 (four) private chalets with bathrooms and small kitchens with appliances; a big, beautiful backyard with lots of fruit trees and, therefore, the constant visit of birds, monkeys, opossums and other animals; a laundry machine and clothesline area; the trustworthy companionship of Preta and Bela, the residency dogs. The rooms are:

Polen – 21m² chalet; suite; bedroom area with bed bedside table, lamps, desk and wardrobe; private bathroom with shower, toilette and sink with mirror; kitchen with camp stove, toaster, minibar, kitchenware; patio area with sink and low working table and a small table with two seats. 

Arai – 32m² chalet; apartment; separated bedroom with bed, bedside table, lamps, mirror, wardrobe and desk; separated kitchen with sink, camp stove, electric oven, minibar, toaster, kitchenware; separated private bathroom with shower, toilette and sink; small balcony and a patio area.

Studio – 24m² chalet; suite; bedroom area with bed, bedside tables, lamps, mirror, couch and wardrobe; bathroom with shower and toilette inside the room; kitchen area with small table with two seats, minibar, microwave oven, toaster, coffee machine, camp stove and kitchenware; sink area shared between bathroom and kitchen area, mirror.

Alexandra – 28m² chalet; apartment; separated bedroom with bed, bedside tables, lamps, wardrobe and desk; separated kitchen/living area with sink, 2-burner built-in stove, refrigerator, toaster, kitchenware, couch, side table and mirror; separated private bathroom with shower, toilette and sink; patio area with small table with two seats.

The workplace at Largo das Artes facilities hold 80m² room that is both used by the artists as shared studio space for the duration of the program and as venue for the residency program final exhibition. The building also hosts studio spaces for local artists.

SHARE STUDIO AND EXHIBITION SPACE

The residency program counts with full curatorial support, continuous follow-up through email and messages on demand and in-person meetings every two weeks.

Do you charge an application fee for your residency? : No

Do you charge a residency fee for your residency? : Regular fee of 1.800 EUR/month for international participants including housing. Reduced fees applied to international participants not including housing and for national participants. A 50% deposit payment is due to March 20th; and balance payment is due to April 10th.

Do you provide the residents with any funds associated with the residency? (e.g. stipend, fellowship, production allowance): No

Expenses paid by the artist: Travel, Production Costs, Food, Supplies.

Expenses paid by the organization: Accommodation, Studio/Workplace, Final Exhibition Production and communication.

Are artists expected to do one of the following during their residency stay? : Exhibition of final presentation.
